Cold Starting Up CATERPILLAR Engines and Cool Sound

Just think, in a few more decades we'll have videos of someone starting a 60 year old leccy motor up! How exciting!

In the USA, glow plugs for diesel engines seem to be considered unnecessary. It seems perfectly normal there that the starter motor has to agonize for a long time before the first cylinder can collect the necessary heat for auto-ignition. You can tell by the fact that white clouds come out of the exhaust for a long time. There is another way: The engines from 2:03 and 3:09 show how engines start with intact glow plugs.  My old uncle Hank was a diesel mechanic starting way back in the 40's. I went to an auction with him back in the 80's & asked him how come the Caterpillars were bringing so much more money than the rest of the stuff. He simply said "Because they're worth it". I later went to work for Cat & their attention to quality control was the most impressive I've ever seen.  The 2:02 I really love the start and sound as it being turn over then the added volts need hearing the engines rev up was petty nice to hear.  Nothing like the 3616s. Those engines are frickin animals. I've rebuilt a few and it's amazing the power they produce and their longevity between overhauls. Didnt see a 3524b or a c175-20 the biggest and beat cat motor in my opinion beat for longevity and best for big payloads and speed. Can do 68kph -47mph with 400t on its back.
