The idea for this wood and steel bench has been in my mind for a long time and I finally got around to making it. Although I'm extremely happy with how it turned out, you can see where the cuts have been made on the end grain. Different timbers would hide this better but I reckon most people wouldn't notice it.
I was determined to give my tig welder a go as I've owned it for 7 months and still hadn't used it. I don't think this was the best project to try it out on as most of the welds were into internal corners which were pretty difficult to do not having tig welded before. Anyhow I persevered and it came together fine, as long as you don't look to closely! I almost gave up and reverted to my mig welder but I'm not going to get any better by shying away from it.
Carving the top was my favourite part, it's something I really enjoy and need to do more of!
As always I'm happy to answer any questions.
